Module 1: Introduction and welcome note: Dr Shubhi Kulshrestha from Medical Learning Hub welcomed all the participants and the panelists and shared the structure of the event. Then she introduced & welcome Prof Emeritus Dr. D. Behera, organizing chairperson to share welcome note. Dr Behera welcomed everyone and then he explained about the conference and the scientific tracks. He mentioned that TB is not a clinical problem, it is needed for all to get involved in handling TB cases.
Post that Dr Shubhi introduced & welcome Dr Rajendra Joshi, DDG TB – Chief guest of the session. Dr Joshi emphasized about learning and updating knowledge on a timely basis is very important. He shared about the achievements in TB sector and the innovations in technology which are helping India to achieve its goal in eliminating TB by 2025.
Module 2: Tuberculosis laboratory services: challenges and solutions: Dr Urvashi Singh, Professor, Chief, Tuberculosis Section Department of Microbiology AIIMS, New Delhi, shared insights on challenges in lab diagnostics, triage tools for diagnosis of TB, algorithm in TB diagnostics, progression to active TB & treatment monitoring.
Module 3: Challenges in diagnosis and management of Pediatric DRTB: Dr Sangeeta Sharma, Prof and HOD Pediatrics, NITRD, Delhi, explained about DRTB in children, challenges & way forward, global burden, diagnostic challenges of pulmonary DRTB, case presentation of presumptive pediatric DRTB, response to ATT & when to suspect, causes of poor/non responders, order of rapid diagnostic test, case discussion, common errors in miss diagnosis, challenges & way forward. She also explained about newer interventions.
Module 4: Management of DR-TB: Dr Rupak Singla, HOD of TB & Respiratory diseases, NITRD, Delhi, shared his experience on management of DRTB, he explained about epidemiology, integrated diagnosis & treatment algorithm for DRTB, management of different types of DRTB, shorter and longer regimen, B pal regimen, recommendation of WHO, consolidated guidelines for management of DRTB.
Module 5: TB Co-Morbidities (DM, HIV, Smoking Nutrition) Management outcomes: Dr Surya Kant, Professor and HOD Respiratory Medicine, King George Medical University, Lucknow, shared his insights about co-morbidities associated with TB. He explained in detail about the effects of TB on diabetes, HIV, malnutrition & smoking. During his talk he explained clinical combination, reactivation of latent TB infection, increased risk of infection, rapid progress to disease and many more.
Module 6: EPTB: Diagnosis & Mgmt with special focus on CNS TB: Dr Nikhil Sarangdhar, Assistant Professor (Pulmonary Medicine), D. Y. Patil University School of Medicine, Navi Mumbai explained about EPTB, its sites, frequency, common clinical features, diagnosis, role of CXR in EPTB. He also brief in detail about CNS TB, choroid TB, eyelid TB, lachrymal gland TB, TB knee, TB lymphadenitis, pleural TB, miliary TB, abdominal TB, its treatment & management
Module 7: Artificial intelligence reading of chest X-rays to triage pulmonary TB at health facilities: Dr Sanjeev Nair, Additional Professor, Department of Pulmonary Medicine, GMC, Thrissur, shared his experiences and knowledge about increasing importance of CXR in TB, AI in CXR reading, practical issues and technical issues, past present and future of CXR, he also shared few reading CXR in AI.
Module 8: Recent research evidence from trials on TB therapeutics: Dr. G. Narendran, Senior Deputy Director / Scientist 'F' Medical, Dept. Of Clinical Research, NIRT Chennai, introduced the TB current scenario, which drugs to use and evidence-based case studies, and when to use the drugs in different cases. He explained about bacillary population & basic of chemotherapy, deciphering resistance- which one to select, WHO guidelines, shine study, rifapentine TBTC 31 trial, Truncate trial, MDR TB trial, zenix trial.
Module 9: Innovation in tuberculosis diagnostics: Dr Ameeta Joshi, Vice Dean (UG), Professor & Head, Dept of Microbiology, Grant Medical College & Sir J J Group of Hospitals, Mumbai explained about innovations in TB diagnostics, vision of DRTB, case findings, decrease in DRTB testing, detection of DRT susceptibility testing, methods of DRT & DST, drug resistance in M TB, methods of drug resistance TB, management of DRTB.
Module 10: On a mission to END TB, achievements of Gujarat: Dr Anil Kumar R Shah, Director STDC Ahmedabad, shared about the initiatives by Gujarat state in eliminating TB.
Module 11: On a mission to END TB, achievements of Karnataka: Dr Anil S, Joint Director & State TB officer, NTEP Karnataka shared how Karnataka is moving towards the goal in eliminating TB. He shared the various initiatives taken by Karnataka like Karnataka action plan, GP wise mapping of TB patient, primary secondary engagement, corporate TB pledge, training to DTO STO & PPM coordinators and many more.
Module 12: Panel discussion: Public private sector engagement to end TB: Dr Kuldeep Sachdeva moderated the session, and asked several questions to the panelists related to how different sectors are moving towards achieving the goal of eliminating TB and what is the need. The session was very interactive and all the experts shared their comments and discussed the progress.
Module 13: Vote of thanks: Dr Shubhi thanked all the participants for attending the conference, the speakers for sharing their knowledge, The Union for co hosting the event and Viatris for supporting the conference.
