Dr. Anders Barasa is the current heart failure lead at Copenhagen University Hospital, Hvidovre. He is also a recent assistant professor at the department of medicine at the Agha Khan University, Nairobi where he was the cardiology section research director and chair of the DRRC (dissertation research review committee). He recently completed a certificate in advanced heart failure management from the University of Zürich through the Heart Academy of the European Society of Cardiology.
Dr. Barasa did his under- and post-graduate training at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and Sahlgrenska University Hospital/Östra Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden respectively.
He wrote his research thesis on heart failure in the young and in pregnancy. His research comprises publications on heart failure, hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, coronary artery disease, peripartum cardiomyopathy and cardiac imaging.
Dr. Barasa is the recent scientific chair and treasurer of the Kenya Cardiac Society and has been instrumental in the advocacy for and the advancement of heart failure in the region, latest through the formation of the East African Heart Failure Task force which held its founding meeting held in April 2019 in Nairobi.
