Module 1 – Modern Management of Angle-Closure Glaucoma
Prof. Paul Foster delivered an insightful session focusing on advanced diagnostic and surgical approaches in angle-closure glaucoma. He emphasized the superiority of phacoemulsification over laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) in patients with PACG or elevated intraocular pressure, supported by evidence from the EAGLE trial. The discussion also covered updated classifications—PACS, PAC, and PACG—along with key risk factors such as hypermetropia, short axial length, and the use of SSRIs. Insights from the 2025 RCOphth Guidelines were shared, advising limited use of LPI only in high-risk cases and recommending phacoemulsification as the first-line intervention in most symptomatic scenarios.
