Module 1: Welcome and Introduction: Dr Mayuri from Medical Learning Hub welcomed the panelists and introduced Dr. Ravi Gopal Verma surgeon for the day and his team and described the general instructions of the event.
Module 2: Debriefing of the case : Dr Nirmala described about the clinical condition of the patient i.e. Parkinson’s disease which is the most commonly performed surgical treatment for Parkinson's. Deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus was shown to remain effective in treating motor complications of people. It can also be used to control symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder and epilepsy.
Module 3: Live surgery: Dr Ravi Gopal Verma performed the live surgery of Deep brain Stimulation
At first the general assessment of patient was done involving the active movements of all four limbs. Anesthesiologist then sedated the patient and Dr Ravi creating small holes in the skull to implant the electrodes into the brain tissue as well as performing surgery to implant the device that contains the batteries under the skin in the chest. All the questions were answered by Dr Ravi during the surgery.
All the steps of the surgery were well explained and demonstrated.
Module 4: Vote of Thanks: Mr Somikant Bhardwaj- Vice President - Marketing and Sales - Altima - A Division of Intas Pharma shared vote of thanks and second poll was raised.
