Dr. Pauline Howell is a senior medical officer and investigator based at the Sizwe Tropical Disease Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. She focus on clinical management and clinical research within the field of HIV and drug-resistant tuberculosis. She serves as the principal investigator for several multidrug and extensively drug-resistant TB studies, including the Nix-TB and ZeNix trials. She has also contributed to the TB Union study STREAM, as well as other TB Alliance trials and IMPAACT pediatric TB trials.

As a member of the Gauteng local government provincial committee for the Bedaquiline rollout, Pauline Howell has played a significant role in the Bedaquiline and Delamanid Compassionate Access Programmes. Currently, she is actively involved in the BPaL CAP and have co-authored an implementation guide for the regimen. She is responsible for managing the CHRU unit at Sizwe and was the investigator responsible for the start-up of a recruitment site for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine trial in 2020. Presently, she serve as the clinical medical monitor for the rapidly enrolling pragmatic BEAT Tuberculosis trial.
