Dr. Sathyan Parthasarathi is a leading figure in ophthalmology, specializing in glaucoma, with three decades of experience.
He is currently the Director of Sathyan Eye Care Hospital and the Coimbatore Glaucoma Foundation, where he continues to pioneer advances in clinical practice and patient care.
His experience includes a notable tenure of over 20 years at Anevind Eye Hospital, where he spent more than 15 years as Chief of Glaucoma Services. Over his career, he has successfully performed more than 80,000 surgeries, spanning cataract, glaucoma, and other ophthalmic procedures.
As President of the Glaucoma Society of India, Dr. Parthasarathi holds a key leadership role in advancing glaucoma care and education.
His previous roles include serving as the Honorary General Secretary of the Glaucoma Society of India (2016-2018) and a member of the AIOS Managing Committee representing the Tamil Nadu Ophthalmic Association (TNOA).
He has also held positions in the Managing Committee of the Tamil Nadu Ophthalmic Association and served as President of the Coimbatore Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons.
Dr. Parthasarathi has received numerous awards for his clinical and research contributions. These include the Most Promising Research Presentation Award from the Glaucoma Society of India in 2001, the Best Patient Care Project Improvement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2006 for his work on reducing outpatient clinic waiting times, and the FICCI Healthcare Excellence Award in 2010 for “Excellence in Patient Experience.”
His innovative model to streamline patient flow in high-volume eye care settings was studied and accepted by the University of Michigan and received recognition at the London Business School as a model for patient efficiency.
Among other prestigious honors, he received the Wagh Memorial Award for contributions to ophthalmology and community eye care, the Best Paper Award at the Silver Jubilee of the Aravind Glaucoma Education Services (AGES) in 2017, and the Prof. Dr. V. Velayutham Glaucoma Oration Award from the Tamil Nadu Ophthalmic Society.
He was also named Best Ophthalmologist in Coimbatore by Three Best Rated and received the PSG Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2022.
His commitment to teaching was recognized by the Indian Medical Association with an Appreciation Award during Teacher’s Day celebrations in 2019.
Dr. Parthasarathi’s achievements are complemented by an honorary FAICO (Glaucoma) Fellowship from the All India Ophthalmological Society, recognizing his lifelong contributions to glaucoma care.
Through his career, he has established himself as an expert in surgical innovation, patient-centered care, and organizational efficiency within ophthalmology
